Roosevelt Corollary


     This political cartoonist about Roosevelt Corollary. “The Worlds Constable” represent the U.S. to remain as police man in Western Hemisphere. The cartoonist message is Roosevelt get “Big Stick” with the new diplomacy that other nations didn’t satisfy. Big Stick is a policy due to the fact that at the time the U.S. had arguably the best military and we put on a show of force to ward off potential attackers. Roosevelt seemed like he is king of that position, and the other foreigners keep demanding something on him. The other opinion that another person could have on this issue is why the other nations didn’t collaborate to attack Roosevelt? Why they are smaller than the U.S. to get that “Big Stick.” The cartoonist used labeling “The New Diplomacy” on the Big Stick that can be shows the U.S. power in that time. And the cartoonist also used exaggeration that Roosevelt is bigger than other foreigners. this cartoon support my pro-imperialism position. Roosevelt get Big Stick to show his power on U.S. that protect their position on Latin America.

Roosevelt Corollary


     This political cartoon is about the Roosevelt Corollary. Uncle Sam stands on the positon of Western Hemisphere which is about Roosevelt Corollary. The cartoonist message of this cartoon is the U.S. using Monroe Doctrine which is the 1823 U.S. policy that banned European nations from intervene in Latin America. Also the U.S. would remain the dominant power in the Western Hemisphere. Next, the other opinion that another person could have on this issue is the U.S. could share the Latin interests with other European nations. The U.S could make deal with the other nations by using Latin interests. The cartoonist used labeling which “Western Hemisphere” to show that U.S. control over it. And “Monroe Doctrine” that other Europeans far away from Western Hemisphere. In addition, the cartoonist used symbolism that person with left side is Uncle Sam. The right side of people are the Europeans who want to intervene in Latin America. This cartoon support my pro-imperialism position. The U.S. would remain as police man in Western Hemisphere, and using Monroe Doctrine to protect the Latin America’s interests.

Open Door Policy

     This political cartoon is about the Open Door Policy. Uncle Sam opening the door of China to entering. The cartoonist  message of this cartoon is the U.S proposed the Open Door Policy to trade with the China. The U.S. wanted the markets and resources in China that also other nations did. The Open Door Policy is the policy stated that no single county would not have a monopoly on trade with China. The other opinion that another person could have on this issue is the Open Door Policy was unfair to China. Because that affect Boxer Rebellion that many Chinese people angered by foreigners'’ behavior on their culture. This cartoon used exaggeration that Uncle Sam is bigger than other Chinese people. Also this cartoon used labeling that “The Open Door” which represent the door between America and China. This cartoon support my pro-imperialism position. Uncle Sam’s smile shows the positive effect that sharing many cultures and interest each other.

Open Door Policy


     This political cartoon is about the open door policy that led the Boxer Rebellion in China. The behind of Uncle Sam is the background of China which tells the issue that between U.S and China. The message of this cartoon is the U.S. open the door of China’s culture with the key which means the U.S and China sharing each other. The foreigners front of Uncle Sam looks they have interests in China. The other opinion that another person could have on this issue is U.S open the door, but not China. It does not seem the China be pleased to U.S. which means the China didn’t have many opportunities to state their rights. The cartoonist used symbolism that the person who hold the key is Uncle Sam, and the people of front of him are the other foreigners from other nations. Additionally, the cartoonist used exaggeration that Uncle Sam is bigger than other foreigners. Also the key and door are big that shows they are important. This cartoon support my pro-imperialism on America. The foreigners look interesting of Open Door Policy with Uncle Sam’s smile.

Panama Canal


     This political cartoon is about the Panama Canal which was important to help America to access to the Pacific Ocean. The message of this cartoon is the U.S. took control of Panama with President Roosevelt’s support. The isthmus of Panama, a narrow strip of land connective two larger land areas, was the best spot for a canal. However, Panama was a colony of Colombia, and we knew that Colombia will not give up Panama easily. To clarify, the U.S helped the Panama to became their own nation. The Panama allowed the U.S to use the canal zone which is a ten mile wide strip of land. The other opinion that another person could have on this issue is the U.S. threatened the Panama. The U.S. navy with threatening weapons look like they are going to swallow the Panama. The cartoonist used exaggeration that the Republican ship with the U.S. navy is bigger than the Colombians and Panamanians. Also, the cartoonist used labeling that the land the U.S. ship arrived is “Panama”, “The Roosevelt Doctrine”, and “Colombia” and “ U.S.S. G.O.P” on their flags. This cartoon support my pro-imperialism on America. The U.S. gain control of Panama canal and that saved 7852 miles by bypassing the trip around South America.

Spaniah-American War


      This political cartoon is about the Spanish-American War which was the U.S victory in the war. The message of this cartoon is the U.S gain Philippines, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Guam as part of their territory. The main event that led U.S to declaring the war against Spain was U.S.S. Maine. The yellow journalism, the style of journalism that exaggerates and sensationalizes the news, exaggerated the U.S.S Maine explodes that caused by Spain and many American soldiers died. As a results, the U.S victory in the Spanish-American War led the expansion of its territory. The other opinion that another person could have on this issue is the declaration of war of U.S against the Spain was on purpose to expand its territory. The Uncle Sam’s greedy face and witch hands show the U.S desired to expand their territory. The cartoonist used exaggeration that Uncle Sam is bigger than everything that represent the U.S. power on the Spanish-American war. For instance, the cartoonist also used the labeling that United States, Cuba, and Philippines which were the major countries in the Spanish-American war that leads to the U.S. victory. This cartoon support my pro-imperialism on America. Philippines, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and Guam become part of the U.S. territory.

Annexation of Hawaii

    
     This political cartoon is about the annexation of Hawaii which was a revolt of American planters in Hawaii against Queen Liliuokalani. The message of this political cartoon is the U.S get bunch of sugar cane by annexation of Hawaii. Some American missionaries started plantations while they were in Hawaii to spread their church’s faith. And Queen Liliuokalani, the leader of Hawaii, limit the American planters’ power. As a result, the American planters in Hawaii upset and they asked to be annexed by the United States. The other opinion that another person could have on this issue is the Hawaii and the Hawaiian people became a part of the U.S. without their approval, because we did not have the consent of the Hawaiian people to annex them. The cartoonist used symbolism that a guy who stand on sugar box is Uncle Sam, and the dwarf who sit down next to Uncle Sam is Hawaiian with complaint face. Additionally, the woman is Queen Liliuokalani who overthrew by the American planters in Hawaii. The cartoonist also used labeling that “sugar” which the U.S. gain from the annexation of Hawaii. And “provisional government” inside of Hawaiian’s hat which represent the annexation of Hawaii was not became part of U.S. with Hawaii and Hawaiian people’s approval. This cartoon support my pro-imperialism on America. The U.S. gain Pearl Harbor which is refueling station, sugar cane, and it expanded the U.S. territory that Hawaii as an fifteenth state in U.S.
